Newman Police Department’s Corporal Ronil Singh, 33, was shot and killed on December 26th during a traffic stop in the city of Newman, within Stanislaus County.

A few moments after making the traffic stop, the officer called out “shots fired” over the radio. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, but the suspect had taken off before they arrived.

The officer was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from his gunshot wounds.

After a large manhunt, the suspect has been apprehended.

Singh had begun working at the Newman Police Department in July of 2011. He worked in narcotics as a K9 officer.

Singh leaves behind his wife, Anamika and a 5-month-old son.
