Redwood City Police Officer Gerardo Silva, 57, died on January 20th. He was on duty and discovered by coworkers unconscious and not breathing inside the police facility.

He was on patrol duty and failed to check in after his last call. A search of the police facility was initiated and he was soon after discovered.

Officers immediately started CPR and application of an in-house defibrillator until Redwood City Fire Department and EMS personnel took over. Silva was transported to Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center, but efforts of hospital staff failed to resuscitate him.

Silva was an 18 year veteran of the department. He is survived by a son and daughter.
