Richmond Police Department Sergeant Virgil Thomas, 52, died August 20th after contracting COVID-19 during a call for service.
Thomas had recently held assignments with school services, neighborhood services and officer-training units with Richmond P.D.
In early 2020, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the country contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic due to requirements of their job. Many of these first responders died as a result of COVID-19.
Sergeant Thomas had served a total of 28 years as an officer. He served 24 years with Richmond and previously served with the Albany Police Department and Novato Police Department for 4 years.
He is survived by his wife and 4 children.
