Tory Carlon

Los Angeles County Fire Department, Firefighter Specialist Tory Carlon, 44, was shot and killed by a sole gunman in fire station 81 on June 1st. Also shot in the melee, but expected to survive was the shift Captain.

The shooting took place at about 10:50 a.m. at the LA County Fire Department, Station 81, in the 87 block of Sierra Highway. A fellow firefighter, who has not been identified, is the suspect in the shooting. Officials say he was off-duty when he shot Carlon at the station Tuesday morning and wounded the fire captain, who was not believed to be intentionally targeted.

The suspect then apparently drove to his own home in Acton, set it on fire and killed himself, sources say. His body was found in a pool outside the home by responding sheriff’s deputies.

The wounded captain is 54 years old and has not been identified. He was airlifted by helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, where he underwent surgery and was described as recovering in critical but stable condition.

Firefighter Carlon had worked for the Los Angeles County Fire Department for over 20 years. Chief Osby described Firefighter Carlon as a dedicated and loyal member of their department. He is survived by three loving daughters and many family members and friends. Please keep him and his loved ones in your heart and prayers.
