In loving memory of Officer Michael Davis Junior

Placer County

End of Watch: 10/24/2014

Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Davis, Jr., 42, was shot and killed October 24, 2014 as he and his partner (who was also his brother) were assisting in a manhunt for a gunman who had killed Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver. His brother, Officer Jeff Davis, was also shot and wounded.

The suspect, Marcelo Marquez, initially opened fire on 2 Sacramento Deputies from his vehicle, striking Deputy Danny Oliver in the forehead. Marquez and the female occupant, his wife, then fled on foot and shot a civilian when they attempted to carjack a vehicle. His wife was taken into custody immediately and Marquez was initially at large, but has since been apprehended.

Michael Davis was a homicide investigator and 15-year veteran of the Placer Co. Sheriff’s Department. His father was a Riverside Sheriff’s Deputy killed in the line of duty exactly 26 years earlier, to the day.

He leaves behind a wife and 4 children.
