Riverside Police Officer, Michael Crain, 34, was shot and killed, February 7, 2013, when he and his partner were ambushed in their patrol car while waiting at a stop light.
Officer Crain’s partner, 27, was also shot and seriously wounded during the ambush. The assailant, ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner, was involved in two other murders as well as shooting and injuring an LAPD officer and killing a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy.
Officer Crain was a Marine Corp veteran having served two tours in Kuwait as a rifleman in the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines. Cain was a squad leader and was promoted to sergeant. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one star, a Certificate of Commendation and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge.
Michael was an 11-year veteran of the department and is survived by his wife Jennifer, 10-year-old son Ian, and 4-year-old daughter Kaitlyn.
