In Memory of Officer Jeremiah Mackay

In loving memory of Officer Jeremiah Mackay

San Bernardino County

End of Watch: 2/12/2013

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy, Jeremiah MacKay, 35, was shot and killed and his partner wounded February 12, 2013 in an exchange of gunfire with fugitive Christopher Dorner. MacKay suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Loma Linda Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Jeremiah’s death was part of an ongoing manhunt to locate Dorner following the suspect’s shooting spree in Los Angeles where he killed two civilians, a Riverside Police Officer (Crain) and wounded another Riverside Officer and an LAPD Officer. Dorner was spotted in the San Bernardino Mountains by Game Wardens and eventually tracked to a cabin where the MacKay was shot while trying to apprehend him. It was MacKay’s third day helping in the search. Dorner was killed in a shootout with officers.

A detective with the sheriff’s office, MacKay joined the department in July 1998. He was also a field training officer with the department.

Jeremiah leaves behind a wife, a 7-year-old daughter and a 4-month-old son.
