Galt Police Officer Harminder Grewal, 27, died on August 26 from injuries he sustained in a vehicle crash while responding to assist at the Caldor Fire. The accident occurred on Sunday, August 22, at around 4:30am on Highway 99 near Dillard Road.
The California Highway Patrol in a news release said a Dodge Ram pickup truck heading southbound on Highway 99 hit the center median, broke through a barrier and veered into northbound traffic, where it struck a Galt Police Department patrol vehicle occupied by Galt Police Officers Grewal and Herrera. The police vehicle was traveling about 70 mph, and the Dodge was driving at an unknown speed. The CHP said it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Officer Grewal had been hospitalized at Kaiser South Sacramento in intensive care since the incident, which also killed the driver of the other vehicle, identified as Manjot Singh Thind, 25, of Manteca. Grewal’s partner, Officer Kapri Herrera remains in critical condition in ICU.
Officer Grewal, a 2.5 year veteran of the Galt Police Department is survived by his mother, father, brother and countless number of family, friends and loved ones. Please keep Officer Grewal, his family and loved ones in your prayers.
