Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department Engineer Christopher Douglas, 41, was killed July 5, 2013 after he was struck by a pickup truck while standing on an Interstate 10 on ramp in Palm Desert.

The Cal Fire Engineer/Paramedic was hit while standing on the Monterey Avenue on ramp of Interstate 10 at about 9:40 a.m. He was taken to the Desert Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver stopped after the crash, cooperated with authorities and consented to a blood test. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be a factor in the mishap.

Christopher, a Temecula resident, had been with Cal Fire for 8 years. A Colorado Springs native, Douglas served in the United States Air Force before going to work for CAL FIRE. He was assigned to Station 35 in Thousand Palms.

Christopher is survived by his wife, Amy, who is pregnant, and their 2-year-old son, Sammy.
