TO MAKE A DONATION TO SGT LICON’S FAMILY:
California Highway Patrol Sergeant Steve Licon, 53, was struck and killed April 6th during a traffic stop on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore.
He had stopped the vehicle on the right shoulder and was in the process of taking enforcement action when a reckless driver drove onto the shoulder at a high rate of speed. The driver struck Sergeant Licon, pinning him and his motorcycle against the car he had stopped.
Sergeant Licon was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect who hit him, a convicted DUI offender, was charged with second-degree murder.
Sgt. Licon was a motorcycle officer and a 28 year veteran of the department. He leaves behind a wife, daughter and step daughter.
