Ventura County Fire Engineer, Ryan Osler, 38, was killed September 21st in a vehicle crash outside Santa Barbara while on his way to help battle a wildfire near Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Osler was a passenger in a water tender when the rig overturned at Highway 246 and Purisima Road in Lompoc. The firefighters were assisting with a blaze that has scorched more than 12,000 acres. Emergency crews responded to the crash at 6:23 a.m. and found the water tender had rolled over onto the roundabout.
Osler was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a fellow Ventura County firefighter, pulled himself from the vehicle and was taken to Lompoc Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.
Engineer Osler began his career with the Ventura County Fire Department in 1998. He leaves behind his wife, Jen, and two children, 12 yr old daughter Amanda and 11 yr old son Brandon.
