California Office of Emergency Services Assistant Fire Chief Ken Hood, 50, died October 24th after suffering an acute medical emergency at a multi-agency coordination meeting.

Hood received immediate medical assistance from Quincy Fire Department members and other public safety professionals who were at the meeting, but despite all efforts by first responders and then emergency room personnel, Hood passed away hours later at Plumas District Hospital in Quincy.

Hood was a 34-year fire service veteran. He began with the U.S. Forest Service in Georgia, moved to California and had a 27 year career with the Bureau of Land Management. He was hired with Cal OES Fire and Rescue Branch in 2014 and was one of two Assistant Chiefs with the agency who were responsible for the 13 northernmost counties in the state.

He is survived by his wife Michele.
