JEREMY STOKE

Redding Fire Department Fire Inspector Jeremy Stoke, 37, was killed on July 27th while effecting evacuations during the explosive Carr Fire in Shasta County.

The blaze was driven by excessive winds and exploded in a single day, marching towards closely populated areas. The flames was so fearsome that fire crews in Redding, for a time, abandoned any hope of containing the flames and instead focused on saving lives. Stoke was caught in the middle of a wind phenomenon up to 143 mph causing a tornado of flames.

The tornado lifted Stoke’s truck off the ground and tossed it into the woods nearby. Inspector Stoke and his truck were found 60 paces away from the road he was driving on.

Inspector Stoke was a 17 year fire service veteran and with the Redding Fire Department since 2004. He is survived by his wife, Alyson, son Caleb, 13, and daughter Aubrey, 9.
