Redding Fire Department Fire Inspector, Jeremy Stoke, was killed on July 27th while battling the explosive Carr Fire in Shasta County.

The blaze is believed to have begun Monday within the Gold Rush-era hamlet of French Gulch after a car downside ignited the blaze Monday, July 23rd. Driven by excessive winds, it exploded in a single day Thursday and continued its swift march towards closely populated areas. The flames was so fearsome that fire crews in Redding, for a time, abandoned any hope of containing the flames and instead focused on saving lives.

Inspector Stoke had been with the Redding Fire Department since 2004.
