Los Angeles Fire Department Firefighter Glenn Allen, 61, died February 18th in a ceiling collapse at a Hollywood Hills home.
While Firefighters were fighting a fire on February 17, 2011, the ceiling collapse occurred, causing injury to 11 firefighters. Allen, one of the injured, later succumbed the following day at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
Glenn Allen had been with the Los Angeles Fire Department for 38 years and had been contemplating retirement. He is survived by his wife.
–In 2014, the architect/homeowner pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and received 1 year in county jail. A year-long investigation concluded the fire was started by a “negligently installed” fireplace inside the home that was designed for outdoor use.
