Los Angeles City Fire Department Captain David Todd Moorman, 50, died February 5th after working a 36 hour shift during which he fell ill.

Captain Moorman’s last call was a vehicle fire at 5:30am. After this incident, his duty shift ended and he went home. Within 1 hour of Captain Moorman arriving home, he suffered a medical emergency and collapsed. A family member witnessed the collapse and immediately began to render first aid, including CPR, until responding units from the Ventura County Fire Department arrived on scene and initiated medical care.

He was transported to Los Robles hospital in Thousand Oaks, California, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Capt. Moorman began his career with the LAFD 27-years ago. He was assigned to Station 96 in Chatsworth on the “C” Platoon. He was a member of the department’s urban search and rescue team and California’s “Task Force 1,” having responded to the 9/11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina and a variety of FEMA deployments.

He leaves behind a loving wife and two children.
